Caribbean Student Organization

Description:

Tropical Beat is a Caribbean oriented organization. Our aim is to unite students of Caribbean orientation with students who want to learn about the Caribbean and Caribbean cultures.

Meeting Our Goal:

Our members will have numerous opportunities to present aspects about their respective countries to other members and the College Community. We also devise new and interesting activities to get our members involved.

The organization as a group has enjoyed activities such as:

Dining at different Caribbean restaurants in Miami. This exposes members to foods from different cultures that they may not have necessarily tasted before.

Games Night. Members get the opportunity to socialize outside the normal meeting day settings while taking part in different board games.

International Flag Party. Students from Miami Dade College, North Campus get to the represent their country by bringing a flag to a party where that is filled with pulsating music from the Caribbean.

In Addition, Tropical Beat has presented  two Caribbean Awareness Festivals (Spring 2004, Spring 2005). This event showcased different islands and countries of the Caribbean. In attendance were representatives and consulates from Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Haiti, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago, and Suriname. Each representative and consulate introduced his/her island and its impact on South Florida.
