Mission Statement
To provide a medium of
interaction between Caribbean students throughout the
state of Florida, and to act as a representing body of
Caribbean students on issues such as education, tuition,
cultural and political awareness
Founding
Preliminary work on FCSA
began in the summer of 1990 by Marlon Hill and his
administration at Florida State University. One year
later in Fall 1991 the dream became a reality. Dwight
Powell, then president of the Caribbean Students
Association at FSU and his administration found success
when seven institutions accepted FSU's invitation to
come to FSU to help form the association.
The first formal
organizational session of FCSA was held on October
18-19, 1992. In attendance were representatives from
FAMU, FAU, FIU, FSU, UCF, UF, USF, and Tallahassee
Community College.
Development
The
Florida Caribbean Students' Association (FCSA Inc.) was
established in 1991. It was created with goals of
providing a medium of interaction between Caribbean
students throughout the state of Florida, and to act as
a representing body of Caribbean students on issues such
as education, tuition, and cultural and political
awareness. Also, they act as a lobbying force on issues
of minority interest, including minority empowerment and
to facilitate links between other Caribbean
organizations throughout the United States of America.
FCSA has become the mother organization to over 40
organizations at colleges and universities across the
state of Florida. FCSA Inc. convenes for statewide
conferences during the fall and spring semesters. Since
its inception FCSA Inc. has successfully hosted
thirty-four (34) conferences, serviced more than 20,000
students, and amassed numerous successful alumni. These
conferences have provided students with the opportunity
for one-on-one networking with fellow students and
experts in a variety of fields.
