Educational/Cultural:
Caribbean Awareness Festival; 2004: This festival included Caribbean Consulates from several Caribbean countries highlighting how Caribbean countries have impacted South Florida.
Caribbean Awareness Festival; 2005: This event was held on Thursday, April 14th, 2005 at Miami Dade College, North Campus. This festival included Caribbean Consulates and representatives from Barbados, Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Dominican Republic, Jamaica, Haiti, Suriname, and Trinidad highlighting how Caribbean countries have impacted South Florida.
Caribbean Awareness Festival; 2006 : This event was held on Monday, April 3rd, 2006 at Miami Dade College, North Campus. This festival included guest speakers from the Greater Caribbean American Chamber of Commerce highlighting how Caribbean folks have contributed to small business enterprises in South Florida. The event also featured numerous cultural performances, a Caribbean food selection segment and display of Caribbean culture by the delegates themselves. Numerous classes and individuals were invited to this event. The organization is proud to report that the MJ Taylor Lounge in which the event was hosted was filled to capacity. Florida Caribbean Students' Association, Incorporated, 30th Bi-Annual Conference: This event was hosted at the University of Tampa in Tampa, Florida from Friday, March 31st, 2006 - Sunday, April 2nd, 2006. 13 representatives of Tropical represented Miami Dade College at this event. This marks the first time that Tropical Beat, in its 2 year existence, has gone outside of Miami to represent the College. Members in attendance received the opportunity to interact with students from other Colleges and Universities across Florida. They also interacted with the Caribbean's doctors, lawyers, and other prominent leaders of the future. Click here for photos.
Social:
Inter-Island Games Night: This is a recurring event that the organization uses to stimulate competitiveness among its members. Members get the opportunity to socialize outside the normal meeting day settings while taking part in different board games and dominos.
International Flag Party: This is a recurring event whereby students from Tropical Beat as well as other students from Miami Dade College, North Campus get to the represent their country by bringing a flag to a party where that is filled with pulsating music from the Caribbean.
Restaurant Visits: This is a recurring event whereby members enjoy dining at different Caribbean restaurants in Miami. This exposes members to foods from different cultures that they may not have necessarily tasted before.
Fundraising:
Every Friday Cookie Table: Tropical Beat and its members gather every Friday to do fundraising. Our "Cookie Table" has been labeled "the vibest on campus".
Community Service:
Jackson Memorial Adopt-A-Floor: In the spring semester of 2006, the club initiated an Adopt of Floor project with Jackson Memorial Hospital whereby every Saturday members would spend recreational time with the kids.
Special Olympics: On Sunday, February 25th, 2006 various members of the club helped out at the annual Special Olympics event held at FIU’s North campus to show the club’s level of support for community related activities. Members of Tropical Beat served as a “buddy” or “hugger” to many mentally and or physically challenged athletes who competed in this fully sanctioned track meet. Click here for photos.
Walk to Cure Diabetes: Tropical Beat and its members volunteered at the 2006 Miami Walk to Cure Diabetes event.
Tropical Beat supports the Student Life Department at Miami Dade College, North Campus at many on and off campus activities.
